Chain Store Sales Fall 0.2% in Week Ended November 3

Chain store sales slipped 0.2% in the week ended November 3, following Hurricane Sandy, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Goldman Sachs weekly chain store sales index.

Year-over-year, "sales fell and slowed by 1.4%."

"Up along the East Coast Hurricane Sandy's wrath was felt as power outages and storm damage forced consumers in doors," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "Retail sales in the coming week should experience some improvement as consumers and retailers begin to get back to normal shopping patterns and recover from Sandy's aftermath," Niemira added.
