Vicky Tsilas to Replace John Cross at Treasury

CHICAGO — Vicky Tsilas, assistant branch chief for the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Associate Chief Counsel, has been named associate tax legislative counsel in the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy.

Tsilas will replace John Cross, who recently left the Treasury to become the new director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Municipal Securities.

Before joining the IRS, Tsilas was “of counsel” at the law firm of Ballard Spahr LLP in Washington.

She rejoined that law firm in 2008, after serving in the IRS’ chief counsel’s office for four years before that.

Tsilas had been an attorney-advisor the IRS’ office of the chief counsel for financial institutions and products.

Prior to joining the IRS, Tsilas had practiced tax law for four years at Ballard Spahr, where she worked on municipal finance issues.

She also previously served as a clerk for the U.S. Tax Court in Washington.

Tsilas is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She received her law degree from Fordham University.
