Kansas Regents Give Nod to Jayhawk Dorm Debt

A plan to build two residence halls at the University of Kansas with $47.8 million of bonds was approved last week by the Kansas Board of Regents.

Work will begin on the five-story halls in January 2014 with completion expected by the fall 2015 semester.

The residential facilities will be the first dormitories built at main campus in Lawrence since 1967.

The two new freshman-oriented residence halls will house about 350 students each.

An existing dormitory at the main campus in Lawrence will be leveled for parking when the new facilities are completed.

The Kansas Development Finance Authority will issue the revenue bonds, which will be supported by dormitory fees.
