Chain Store Sales Steady in Week Ended October 13

Retail sales were flat in the week ended October 13, and slowed to a 2.7% increase year-over-yeara, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Snapshot released Tuesday.

"Overall this past week sales results were steady but the composition of sales was different as consumer traffic improved at grocery and apparel stores, as well as wholesale clubs, but weakened at dollar, office and furniture stores, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs consumer tracking survey," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "The continuation of cooler weather is aiding in driving traffic for seasonal merchandise and is expected to continue for the rest of October," Niemira added.
