Jobs Posted on Internet Up 128,600 in Sept.: Report

About 4,813,400 online job postings appeared on leading Internet job boards in September, an increase of 128,600 from August, the Conference Board reported Wednesday.

"The September rise was welcome news, especially the strong gain for sales staff and managers, which made up almost one third of the increase," said June Shelp, vice president at the Conference Board. "Occupations commonly associated with building (Construction and Building and Grounds Maintenance) also rose a combined 8,900 in September as employers had to replace or add workers. In 2012 the average monthly increase has been 55,000 and 48 of the 50 States (all but Vermont and Wyoming) are showing gains."

In the two prior months, 262,300 fewer jobs were posted, meaning there were 134,000 less postings in the quarter.

"The Supply/Demand rate for the U.S. in August (the latest month for which the national unemployment number is available) stands at 2.68, indicating that there are fewer than three unemployed workers for every online advertised vacancy. Nationally, there are 7.9 million more unemployed workers than advertised vacancies," the Conference Board said in its release.
