Brownstein Takes SIFMA's 2012 Honor Roll Award

WASHINGTON — David Brownstein, managing director and co-head of public finance in the municipal securities division of Citi, has been named recipient of the Securities Industry and Financial Market’s Association’s 2012 Honor Roll Award, SIFMA said in a media release.

SIFMA said it plans to honor Brownstein with the award, which recognizes his “outstanding service” to the municipal securities industry, at a lunch in New York City Tuesday.

Brownstein played an “instrumental” role in the industry’s work with regulators during the financial crisis, while he was chair of SIFMA’s municipal securities executive committee, said the group.

Brownstein chaired the committee from November 2009 to October 2010.

“He has shown leadership to the industry both through and outside of his work with SIFMA, and we are pleased to recognize his many contributions,” Kenneth Gibbs, current chair if SIFMA’s muni division and president of the municipal securities group at Jefferies & Company Inc., said in the release.

Brownstein’s job at Citi includes responsibility for credit facilities, direct-lending products, forward commitments and tender offers.

He began a career in public finance in 1983, as an investment banker at Ehrlich Bober & Co., and later worked in the municipal finance divisions of AG Edwards Inc., and Smith Barney Inc.

Brownstein has been a senior manager or financial advisor to more than 200 municipal issuers, higher-education institutions and healthcare providers, said SIFMA. He has a bachelor’s degree in classics from Beloit College in Wisconsin.
