Atlanta Settles with Ex-CFO De Foor

The Atlanta City Council last week agreed to pay a $136,000 settlement to the city’s former chief financial officer, Joya De Foor.

De Foor left in October 2010 after about a year on the job. At the time, city officials did not say if she was fired or resigned, and Mayor Kasim Reed would not respond to requests for comment about her employment.

The City Council last week approved a resolution stating that De Foor sought “remedy and redress for alleged deprivation of her employment rights in connection with the termination of her employment.”

The resolution also said the city attorney had extensively reviewed De Foor’s case and “determined that the city’s potential financial exposure” would be far in excess of the settlement amount.

De Foor, the former treasurer for Los Angeles, was among the three finalists for the CFO’s job in Reed’s administration. Reed had nominated her as CFO six months after he took office in January 2010, and the council confirmed her hiring.

After De Foor departed, Reed named J. Anthony “Jim” Beard as CFO.
