A Referendum in Danbury

A proposed $55 million bond issue that includes $44 million to expand city schools will go to Danbury, Conn., voters in November.

The City Council last week voted unanimously to put the issue before voters.

According to the News-Times of Danbury, the bond also includes $7.9 million for sewer projects, $550,000 for water projects and $2.5 million for other infrastructure improvements.

School superintendent Sal Pascarella said overcrowding has also reached "almost dangerous" levels at the city's two middle schools, the newspaper reported.

The school portion of the bond package includes renovations and expansions to Shelter Rock, Stadley Rough and Park Avenue elementary schools, according to the News-Times. The bond proposal also includes about $18 million to expand and renovate the Mill Ridge Education Center into two middle school academies.
