School District to Sell Ads

The trustees of the South San Antonio Independent School District voted last week to allow advertisements on its fleet of 30 school buses.

An official with the district said it could realize $13,000 to $27,000 a year from the ads. The district expects a cut in state aid of $5 million in fiscal 2013.

The district will receive 50% to 70% of the ad revenues. The program will be handled by a local advertising agency.

Two other school districts in Bexar County allow advertisements on their buses.

The Judson Independent School District said it could earn $84,000 a year if ads are placed on all 114 of its buses.

The Comal Independent School District has earned almost $9,000 with ads on 20 buses since May 2011.
