R.I. Studying Shared City Services

Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee signed an executive order creating a task force to help facilitate shared services among Pawtucket, Central Falls and East Providence, beginning with public works operations.

Chafee on Thursday designated John Simmons, executive director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, to chair the task force, which will also include state Director of Revenue Rosemary Booth Gallogly and representatives of the three cities.

The governor’s action follows a request by Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien seeking support for the special panel and a formal way in which municipalities such as Pawtucket could share some of their services in a mutually cost-effective manner.
