WASHINGTON -- Seasonally-adjusted initial jobless claims fell to 386,000 for the week ending June 23, while continuing claims for the previous week fell slightly to 3.296 million, the Department of Labor reported Thursday.
The 386,000 initial claims declined 6,000 from the previous week's 392,000, originally reported as 387,000.
The 3.296 million continuing claims represented a slight dip from the previous figure of 3.311 million, originally reported as 3.299 million.
The 386,000 initial claims were just higher than the median estimate of 385,000 projected by economists polled by Thomson Reuters, but the 3.296 million continuing claims were right in line with their projection.
The four-week moving average for initial claims was 386,750, down 750 from the previous week's revised average of 387,500, which was originally reported as 386,250.
The four-week moving average for continuing claims was 3.306 million, up 9,250 from the previous week's revised average of 3.297 million.
