Kansas tax collections in May exceeded revenues in May 2011, but fell below the official monthly revenue forecast.
Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan said last month’s collection of $573.8 million was $26 million less than the $600 million expected in the latest official forecast, but was up 8% compared with May 2011.
State general fund collections have totaled $5.4 billion since the fiscal year began on July 1, 2011, according to Jordan.
“We are pleased to see the Kansas economy continuing to grow and build its way out of the recession,” he said
Jordan said that revenues from the individual income tax had failed to meet the May forecast, but the sales tax and corporate income tax outperformed expectations.
