Tax Collections Tightened

Action by the Idaho Legislature during the 2012 session made 48 auditing and tax collector positions permanent and made state tax laws more stringent, a local newspaper reported.

The changes help to shrink the tax gap, adding to state coffers by collecting delinquent taxes, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Plugging the tax gap made it possible for Idaho to avoid making severe cuts to the state’s K-12 education system and public health problems, which had already experienced cutbacks, the newspaper said.
