Texas sales tax collections in April totaled $1.87 billion, up 11.4% from April 2010 collections, Comptroller Susan Combs said last week.
“This is the 13th straight month in which state sales tax revenue has increased,” she said.
The state will distribute $600.1 million of the sales tax revenue to local governments, an increase of 5.8% from May 2010.
So far in calendar 2011, Combs said, sales tax allocations to cities, counties, transit districts, and special tax districts are up 7.1% from the same period of 2010.
Cities will receive $403.4 million, with $37.4 million shared by Texas counties with a sales tax.
The 10 transit districts in Texas will share $133.5 million, with the 174 special taxing districts receiving a total of $25.6 million.
