Brown Taps New CHFA Head

Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Claudia Cappio to be  executive director of the California Housing and Finance Agency.

Cappio was Brown’s development director while he was mayor of Oakland. She most recently was managing principal at the planning and development firm Sparticles LLC,

Cappio has experience planning and managing projects for local governments, including the Chiron Biotechnology Center Campus and the Pixar Animation Studios Campus in Emeryville.

She has worked as a planning building director in Emeryville, a planning director in Albany, and an associate planner for Corte Madera.

Her appointment still needs Senate confirmation. Cappio, a Democrat, will be paid $174,000 annually.

Steven Spears will stay on as the agency’s chief deputy director.
