Toll Roads on the Table

Alabama officials are considering increasing the use of tolls to build roads in the state and replace the potential loss of $150 million in federal funds.

Currently, the only toll roads in operation are privately owned.

Lawmakers are discussing standards for the broader use of tolls and the regulation of increases, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

“I think selected toll roads is something I want to look at,” Gov. Robert Bentley told the paper.

The Republican governor said using toll roads would help pay for infrastructure, create jobs, and provide for future maintenance.
