Two Tapped for Authority Boards

Gov. Sean Parnell Wednesday announced two appointments to the board of directors of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority and Alaska Energy Authority.

The two agencies share staff and both have bonding authority.

Parnell named Hugh Short and Ron Arvin to the board.

Short is president and chief executive officer of Alaska Growth Capital, a subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corp. that offers economic development financing and consulting

Arvin is president of RA Environmental Inc., providing international trade services, design, building contracting and other business development services, in addition to serving as a member of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly.

The AEA is charged with reducing the cost of energy in Alaska and is promoting a $5 billion hydroelectric dam project that will require significant state subsidies and is expected to use tax-exempt bond financing.

The AIDEA is an economic development agency that serves as a conduit-bond issuer and authorizes industrial development bonds.
