Scott Taps Swoope for Post

Gov. Rick Scott Monday announced that Gray Swoope will be the president of Enterprise Florida, the state’s public-private partnership program for economic development. He will be leaving his current job as executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority.

“Bringing new energy and expertise to Florida’s economic development activities is an ideal task for which Gray Swoope is well-suited,” Scott said.  “I am excited to have him leading the job creation and economic development mission in Florida.”

Swoope has been in the economic development business for more than 25 years. As MDA director, Swoope reported directly to Gov. Haley Barbour.

“Gray Swoope has done a tremendous job for Mississippi over the last seven years, first as deputy, then as director of the Mississippi Development Authority,” Barbour said in a statement. “Not only is he a professional, but also he leaves behind a very professional organization.”
