Raise High the Roof Beam

The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission expects insurance to cover most of the $19 million price tag for a new roof on the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

The commission plans to repair the roof — which collapsed under the weight of a December snow storm — to allow the National Football League's Minnesota Vikings to finish out its lease, which expires after its next season.

The Vikings are seeking state support for a new stadium. Ramsey County has proposed possibly redeveloping the site of the Twin City Army Ammunitions Plant in Arden Hills into a stadium.

Minneapolis officials and the Vikings held talks Friday on building a new stadium on the Metrodome site. The cost of the new facility is pegged at $1 billion and financing legislation is expected to be introduced in the current session.
