State sales tax revenue was up in January for the 10th month in a row to $1.83 billion, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said last week.
Last month’s collections of $1.83 billion topped January 2010 revenue by 10.4%.
The state will distribute $654.8 million to local governments and districts, an increase of 5.9% from January 2010.
Cities and towns will share $440.3 million of sales tax revenue, up from $417.8 million last year. Houston will receive $51.8 million, with $24.5 million going to San Antonio and $22.9 million to Dallas.
Ten local transit system will receive $146 million. The Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority will receive $56 million and Dallas Area Rapid Transit will receive $43 million.
Counties will receive a total allocation of $39.7 million, and 175 special taxing districts in the state will share $28.6 million.
