Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett last week selected Linda Kelly to succeed him as attorney general.
Kelly is assistant U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, where she has worked for 30 years, sometimes serving as acting U.S. attorney.
Kelly, 61, is the division’s senior litigation counsel and anti-terrorism coordinator. Previously, she was an assistant district attorney for Allegheny County. As Pennsylvania’s top prosecutor, she will oversee 750 employees and 20 offices throughout the state.
“I know from my personal experience that throughout her career she has consistently demonstrated good judgement, common sense, and has the experience to successfully lead the attorney general’s office,” Corbett said in a statement.
The Senate must approve the nomination. Kelly will not run for the post once it is up for election in 2012, which is the tradition for attorney generals in Pennsylvania who are nominated for the post.
