WASHINGTON — Wholesale inventories increased 1.0% in December, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.
Wholesale sales increased 0.4%.
Economists expected inventories would increase 0.7% and sales would gain 1.3%, according to the median estimate from Thomson Reuters.
Inventories for November were revised higher to unchanged from a decline of 0.2% reported last month.
November sales were unchanged at a 1.9% increase.
Inventories of durable goods increased 0.8% in December following a 0.4% increase in November.
The inventories-to-sales ratio climbed to 1.16 from 1.15.
