Nassau OTB Gets Reprieve

A judge has granted another extension to the Nassau Off-Track Betting Corp. in its prolonged legal fight with New York harness tracks, OTB officials said.

Judge Guy Tomlinson of Schenectady County Court gave the parties until Jan. 13 to settle, Nassau OTB chairman Joseph Cairo told Newsday.

Tomlinson's fourth judicial district covers the OTB's Schenectady headquarters.

The legal battle involves lawsuits filed by harness tracks against Nassau and other regional OTBs for annual payments of simulcasting proceeds since 2004, according to Newsday.

The newspaper has reported that Nassau OTB is liable for $4.5 million. The corporation received an earlier extension when it faced an Oct. 31 deadline to pay $647,000, which Nassau OTB owes the state Racing and Wagering Board for 2010. Nassau OTB has appealed that amount.
