Review of Regional Plans

The Empire State Development Corp. has named a review committee that will hear presentations of final strategic plans proposed by officials from 10 regions throughout New York.

From Monday through Wednesday, the panel will hear proposals from regional councils established under an initiative of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. To support his initiative, Cuomo earmarked $1 billion in state resources, including $200 million in targeted economic development funding.

Proposals include the redevelopment of the Hunts Point produce market in New York City’s Bronx borough and a development project in Uniondale, Long Island, that would include a new arena for the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders.

Committee members are Dall Forsythe, senior fellow at the Wagner School of Public Service and a former vice president for finance and operations at the Atlantic Philanthropies; Walter Broadnax, public administration at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School; Bruce Katz, vice president at the Brookings Institution and founding director of the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program; and state transportation commissioner Joan McDonald.

Secretary of State Cesar Perales will be a technical adviser to the committee.
