Ethics Reform Gets Nod

Detroit voters approved a new city charter that imposes a set of ethical rules for public officials.

The charter reforms, two years in the making, come in the wake of scandals that led to the downfall of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s administration.

The new charter also requires the city to direct more resources into green technology and business development.

In addition, it requires City Council members to be elected by district. Detroit is currently one of only two cities in the U.S. that elects council members at large.
