Pennsylvania Sen. Jeffrey Piccola, who in the past year has sponsored legislation to put Harrisburg under state control and restrict its bankruptcy options, may no longer have parts of the capital city in his district.
Under a proposed redistricting, Piccola, a Republican from Susquehanna Valley, would get portions of Perry, Cumberland and Adams counties instead of parts of Harrisburg in the 15th Senatorial District.
“The resulting layout … resembles an East-West horseshoe that Senate Democrats argued should get
Piccola the gerrymander-of-the-year prize,” the Patriot-News of Harrisburg wrote.
Piccola lost all Harrisburg precincts in 2008 while defeating challenger Judy Hirsh.
Embattled Harrisburg continues to face a possible state takeover while a Chapter 9 petition is pending in federal bankruptcy court.
Pennsylvania is challenging the bankruptcy, citing in part a Piccola-sponsored law.
