The University of Michigan’s final October consumer sentiment index reading was 60.9, compared to the preliminary October 57.5, the final September 59.4, and the final August 55.7, according to market sources.
The expectations index was 51.8, up from 47.0 earlier in October, 49.4 in September, and 47.4 in August.
The current conditions index was 75.1, compared to 73.8 earlier in October, 74.9 in September, and 68.7 in August.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 58.0 reading for the main index, 74.1 for current conditions and 48.2 for expectations.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.7% compared to 2.9% in Septembe, and 2.9% in August, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.2%, down from 3.3% in September and 3.5% in August.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
