RFQ: Tax Experts Wanted

Hawaii’s Tax Review Commission issued a request for qualifications on Oct. 3 for an economist or accountant with knowledge of the state’s economy and tax structure, in order to prepare a study evaluating whether its tax system will provide sufficient revenues to meet future needs.

If the report finds the current system needs improvement, it would recommend changes.

The proposed revenue survey would analyze how the current tax system has performed during the economic downturn from 2008 to 2011 in comparison to similar jurisdictions nationally and internationally.

Interested parties must send their completed requests for qualifications to: Suzanne Efhan, Administrative Services Officer, Department of Taxation, 830 Punchbowl St., No. 217, Honolulu, HI, 96813.

They are due Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time.

The commission hopes to have a final report from whichever firm is selected by June 30, 2012, so that it can conduct public hearings and present the findings to the Legislature.
