Deal for New Campus OK’d

The Utah Board of Regents last week voted to construct the first building on Utah State University’s Brigham City campus in a $15 million deal to be shared with the city.

Brigham City has agreed to issue $7.5 million, with the rest of the bonds coming from regents. The board also approved $23.8 million for the Utah State University Eastern Arts and Education Building, which will measure 60,000 square feet. The city’s branch of the university has been housed in a strip mall, with 1,012 students last fall.

The USU Board of Trustees and the Utah regents approved the purchase of the campus, which once served an Intermountain School for Native American students. USU has regional campuses in Tooele, San Juan, Uintah Basin, Price, and Brigham City.
