Consumer Sentiment Rises in September

The University of Michigan’s preliminary September consumer sentiment index reading was 57.8, following the final August 55.7, the preliminary August 54.9, and the final July 63.7, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 47.0, following 47.4 in August, 45.7 earlier in August, and 56.0 in July.

The current conditions index was 74.5, following 68.7 in August, 69.3 earlier in August, and 75.8 in July.

Economists who were polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 56.5 reading for the main index, a 68.0 reading for current conditions, and 47.5 for expectations.
