Garvee PAC Backers

Businesses and organizations associated with the chairman of the Arkansas Highway Commission are the major contributors in support of a statewide election in November to reauthorize $525 million of grant anticipation revenue vehicle bonds.

Reports filed with the Arkansas Ethics Commission said Moving Arkansas Forward, a political action committee that supports the reauthorization of the state’s Garvee bond program, has collected $349,912 through the end of August and spent $185,142.

Highway Commission chairman R. Madison Murphy of El Dorado is co-chair of the support group.

Contributions to the PAC include $121,912 from the Murphy Foundation, $40,000 from Murphy Oil Corp., and $10,000 from Deltic Timber, where Murphy is a board member.

Other contributors include three donations totaling $77,500 from the Arkansas chapter of the Associated General Contractors and $12,500 each from the Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association and the Arkansas chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association.

The largest single payment by the highway PAC was $46,500 to Craig Douglass Communications for a voter survey and other services.
