Child Pro Is New Fiscal Chief

Gov. Robert Bentley Tuesday announced the appointment of Marquita Davis as director of the Alabama Finance Department.

Davis currently serves in the governor's cabinet as commissioner of the Department of Children's Affairs, a post she has held since 2008, managing a staff of over 350 employees and an annual budget in excess of $20 million. She takes over as finance director next month.

Bentley said Davis is "highly accomplished and has the right amount of experience and knowledge to lead this important state agency."

Davis has more than 20 years experience in higher education, nonprofit service and state government. Prior to her appointment as commissioner, Davis was director of the Office of School Readiness and Alabama's voluntary pre-K program.

She received a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University, a master's degree from Alabama A&M University, and a doctorate in early childhood education and development from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The finance director is the state's chief financial officer. Until earlier this month the post was held by attorney David Perry, who will become the governor's chief of staff.
