JeffCo Convict Gets Hearing

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta on Oct. 4 will hear arguments in the appeal filed by former Jefferson County Commissioner Gary White.

White is appealing his conviction last year for conspiracy and accepting bribes from a sewer contractor whose company received millions of dollars in contracts with the county to renovate the sewer system.

In addition to being sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, White was ordered to pay $22,000 in restitution, plus interest, to Jefferson County, forfeit $22,000 to the federal government, and pay a fee of $900.

White is among dozens of people and companies in Alabama convicted for corruption involving the county's debt-clogged sewer system.
