Panel Seeks MTA Chief

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo named a search committee to recommend candidates for the next chairman and chief executive of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Jay Walder will leave in October to become CEO of MTR Inc. of Hong Kong, which operates rail systems in Asia and Europe.

Executive search firm Krauthamer & Associates Inc. will assist in the process.

The committee includes Fernando Ferrer, current MTA board member and former Bronx borough president and New York City mayoral candidate; Vincent Alvarez, president of the New York City Central Labor Council; Lillian Borrone, board chairwoman of the Eno Transportation Foundation and former assistant executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; Sidney Holmes, a municipal bond veteran and partner with Winston & Strawn LLP; and Richard Ravich, former lieutenant governor and chairman of a commission that former Gov. David Paterson launched in 2008 to repair the MTA’s finances.

The Senate must confirm Cuomo’s MTA appointment.
