Weiner District Up for Grabs

Republicans in New York City’s Queens and Brooklyn boroughs nominated retired cable television executive Bob Turner to face Democrat David Weprin for the Ninth Congressional District seat vacated by Anthony Weiner.

Weiner resigned last month in his seventh term after admitting he sent sexually explicit online messages to several women. Turner, 70, lost to Weiner in last year’s general election by a margin of 59-41%, closer than expected.

Turner is a former president and chief executive of Pearson Plc’s North American television operations. Weprin, 55, an assemblyman from a prominent Queens political family, has had senior public finance positions with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Paine Webber Inc., Advest and Sterne Agee.
