June Chicago PMI Rises to 61.1 From 56.6

The Chicago Purchasing Managers’ Business Barometer rose to 61.1 in June from 56.6 in May, the National Association of Purchasing Management-Chicago said Thursday.

The data is compiled on a seasonally adjusted basis. An index reading below 50 signals a slowing economy, while a level above 50 suggests expansion.

Economists expected a 54.0 reading.

The production index rose to 66.9 from 56.0, the new orders index increased to 61.2 from 53.5, the order backlogs fell to 49.3 from 51.7 and inventories dropped to 46.9 from 61.6. The employment index decreased to 58.7 from 60.8, and the supplier deliveries index was at 64.8, up from 63.8 last month. The prices paid index slid to 70.5 from 78.6.
