Former Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is joining Foley & Lardner LLP, the state’s largest law firm and its frequent bond counsel, where he will work on national health care and energy policy issues, according to published reports.
During his terms as governor, Doyle expanded health care coverage and promoted renewable energy alternatives. He will remain a resident of Madison.
Doyle, 65, is a Harvard University-educated lawyer who served three terms as Dane County district attorney. He was elected attorney general in 1990 and served three terms in that position, too. He successfully ran for governor in 2002 and won re-election in 2006.
Doyle, a Democrat, did not run for a third term. He left office earlier this month after Scott Walker, former Milwaukee County executive, was sworn in as governor. Walker defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, a Democrat, in the gubernatorial contest.
Doyle ally Marc Marotta who served as head of the Department of Administration is a Foley & Lardner partner. The firm ranked second among bond counsel firms doing work with Wisconsin and local issuers, advising on 30 issues valued at $1.5 billion. It ranked 16th in the Midwest and 45th nationally among bond counsel firms, according to Thomson Reuters.
