WASHINGTON — Ballard Spahr LLP is promoting public finance attorney Joseph Fanone to managing partner in its Washington, D.C., office, the firm announced Monday.
Fanone has been working in the firm’s Washington public finance office since 1983, he said on Monday.
The promotion becomes effective July 1, he said.
Fanone’s recent work includes representing trustee banks and working on tax-increment financing deals.
He also has represented underwriters, hospitals, and universities, among other players in the public finance field.
Even though the new-issuance market has been slow so far this year, Fanone said he has been working to restructure several TIF deals.
“It may not be that steady flow of new deals, but there are a lot of other things going on keeping people busy,” he said. New issuance, he is hoping, “will pick up in the later part of the year.”
Fanone, a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, graduated from Georgetown University and received his law degree there. He was formerly an assistant attorney in Pennsylvania.
In his new post at Ballard Spahr, Fanone will succeed Allan Winn, who will return to representing real estate-related clients.
Ballard ranked seventh among bond counsel in dollar amounts during the first quarter. The firm was bond counsel on 25 deals totaling $1.285 billion, according to Thomson Reuters.
