Obituary — Lowell Patrick Oden

A memorial service was held earlier this month for New York City-based health care banking and advisory specialist Lowell Patrick Oden, who died late last year of complications from pneumonia after a long illness.

Mr. Oden left his native Texas in 1970 to move to New York, where he worked for more than three decades as a banker and adviser in the nonprofit health care sector. He worked for White, Weld & Co., and later was a managing director at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he recruited, developed, and managed the health care finance group.

After his retirement, Mr. Oden kept busy as a consultant to the health care industry. He also became an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, where he taught a class on municipal capital markets.

Mr. Oden, a resident of Bronxville, N.Y., also remained active in his community, serving as chairman of the Bronxville finance committee and on the Lawrence Hospital board finance committee. He was a founding chairman of the Bronxville School Foundation finance committee and served on a handful of other local boards.

Mr. Oden is survived by his wife of 37 years, Madeline Eckett Oden; his children, Melissa and Patrick; and his brother Michael and sister Nanci Kerlin.
