Riverhead Schools Pitch

The Riverhead, N.Y., Board of Education heard a $78.4 million capital improvement bond plan for the Long Island community’s schools.

The Community Partnership for Revitalization Committee, a group of 55 community members, teachers and administrators, presented the plan along with BBS Architects and Engineers of Patchogue.

In February 2010, 62% of district taxpayers voted down a $123 million plan to overhaul buildings and athletic fields.

The board will further discuss the new plan on Tuesday. Schools superintendent Nancy Carney said at the meeting that any unused portion of the $10 million capital improvement bond approved several years ago would be used to reduce the amount the district borrows for the new proposal.
