Gov. Jennifer Granholm next week is expected to sign into law a $383 million capital budget that would fund dozens of projects at universities and community colleges across Michigan.
Lawmakers approved the budget during a lame-duck session.
The spending plan was a compromise between the Democratic-led House plan, which totaled $609 million, and the Republican-led Senate plan, which was for $326 million, according to local reports.
The budget will cost the state $35 million in debt service.
Proceeds will be used to fund 23 infrastructure projects at 11 universities and 12 community colleges. Several of the approved projects will cost around $30 million.
The House approved the bill by a vote of 56 to 38, and the Senate passed it 25 to 7.
