Amy S. Doppelt

Amy Doppelt, a veteran municipal analyst, died Dec. 2 after an almost two-year battle with cancer. She was 52.

Ms. Doppelt was well known in the municipal market for her work as a managing director in Fitch Ratings’ public finance department and head of its western region tax-supported group. She joined Fitch in 1989 as it entered the ratings business.

Her longtime colleague, Richard Raphael, head of U.S. public finance at Fitch, called her “an original in every way.”

“She was one of a very small group — those who joined Fitch in 1989, put the new company on the map, and stayed to sustain its growth and success,” he said. “Amy was an incredibly gifted analyst, writer, and communicator. She had a commanding presence — stylish, bold, and outspoken — and inside, an incredibly generous heart.”

Before joining Fitch, Ms. Doppelt. worked as a vice president at both Capital Re Management and L. F. Rothschild & Co. Before that, she spent several years at Standard & Poor’s.

Ms. Doppelt was recognized by Smith’s Research and Gradings for several years as a member of its All-Star Municipal Analysts Team, including this year. She recently completed two terms as an adviser to the Government Finance Officers Association’s standing committee on economic development and capital planning. She was a member of the California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission’s technical advisory committee for 14 years. Ms. Doppelt also was a member of the California Society of Municipal Analysts and the National Federation of Municipal Analysts.

She was a graduate of Smith College.

Ms. Doppelt is survived by her husband, Steve Scheier and two stepdaughters, Haley and Lauren. She is also survived by her brother Andy Doppelt, his wife Melanie, a niece, Erin, and a nephew, Jason.
