ISM Service Sector Index Up to 55.0 in November

The Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing business activity composite index rose to 55.0 in November from 54.3 in October, the group said Friday.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had expected a 54.9 level for the seasonally adjusted gauge of the service sector. Readings below 50 signal a slowing economy, with those above 50 indicating expansion.

The prices paid index slipped to 63.2 in November, employment rose to 52.7, production slid to 57.0, new orders were at 57.7, order backlogs dipped to 51.5, and new export orders increased to 59.5.
