New Finance Chief Tapped

Outgoing Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen appointed Mike Morrow to be the Department of Finance and Administration commissioner on Tuesday.

Morrow replaces former commissioner Dave Goetz, who left office last week.

“Mike has served the state of Tennessee for more than 30 years and I appreciate his willingness to continue his service in this new capacity,” Bredesen said in a statement.

“Mike’s state career includes more than 20 years within the Department of Finance and Administration, so he is extraordinarily qualified to lead this department and to continue oversight of the state’s budget and overall operation of state government.”

Morrow has served as the state’s fiscal director, deputy and assistant commissioner of the Division of Administration, and in accounting positions at the Department of Employment Security.

Most recently, he assumed responsibility for the Tennessee recovery management office that provides oversight of the federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee.
