K.C. Fed Manufacturing Survey Sees Expansion

Manufacturing activity in the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s region continued to expand moderately in October and producers were increasingly optimistic about future activity, the bank reported Thursday.

Price indexes in the monthly manufacturing survey rose slightly for the second month. The production index fell to 10 in October from 14 in September, shipments fell to 6 from 15, new orders rose to 16 from 9, and backlog of orders held at 4.

New orders for exports fell to zero from 10, and supplier delivery time fell to 1 from 4. Number of employees rose to negative 1 from negative 2, and average employee workweek held at 2. Prices received for finished products rose to 2 from negative 1, while prices paid for raw materials held at 25. In projections for six months from now, the production index grew to 29 from 23.
