Fast-Rail Project Revs Up

Despite questions being raised about the cost of high-speed trains as November elections near, Florida is moving forward with the first phase of its $2.6 billion rail project from Tampa to Orlando.

A “High Speed Rail Industry and Developer Forum” will be held Nov. 8-9 by the Florida Department of Transportation for interested groups and federal, state, and local officials. It will provide an overview and update of the project’s development, and also focus on rail stations and development opportunities surrounding them

Companies interested in leading project teams bidding to build and operate the project can schedule one-on-one meetings with FDOT by appointment both days of the forum. For meeting details, contact Laura Guitar at 407-616-1863 or Laura.Guitar@Edelman.com.

The newly organized Florida Statewide Passenger Rail Commission holds its second meeting Wednesday in Orlando. The agenda includes the central Florida commuter rail project known as SunRail and an update on the Tampa-to-Orlando high-speed rail project and its procurement. The nine-member commission oversees all existing and proposed rail projects.
