Dallas Fed: Factory Activity Improved in September

Manufacturing activity in Texas, as measured by the production index, was better in August, according to the monthly business activity survey conducted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, which was released Monday.

The general business conditions index declined to negative 17.7 in September from negative 13.5 in August.

The production index rose to 4.0 from negative 0.1, while capacity use climbed to 3.9 from negative 3.1. New order volume narrowed to negative 3.0 from negative 9.3, while the order growth jumped to zero from negative 13.2.

As for the outlook six months from now, the general business conditions index rose to 5.2 from negative 4.3 last month, the production index increased to 33.1 from 24.2, and capacity use grew to 25.3 from 23.3, the Fed reported.
