A proposal by Logan County Independent School District No. 1 for $89.8 million of lease-revenue bonds was rejected last week by almost 78% of those voting.
The proposal failed with 1,089 in favor and 3,834 opposed. School bond proposals in Oklahoma must have 60% in favor to pass.
If the measure had been approved, the property tax rate in the district would have gone up by almost 25%.
The district wanted to use proceeds from the bonds to build a new 1,200-student high school and athletic facilities in Guthrie, about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City.
Voters rejected school bond proposals of $5.8 million in April 2009 and $12 million in October 2008.
