New O’Hare Rail Link Eyed

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley last week announced the formation of a committee to study establishing express rail service between downtown and O’Hare International Airport that would complement the existing rail line.

A previous plan proposed by the Chicago Transit Authority was scrapped due to rising public costs. The committee is expected to study the feasibility of the new service and financing options. The plan would rely on private investors.

“The new rapid rail line will help us better connect people, and will expand economic opportunity and create jobs for our residents,” Daley said in a statement.

The committee has 16 members appointed by the mayor, including local business and civic leaders. Lester Crown, chairman of Henry Crown and Co., will serve as chairman.
