Logan’s Run for Bond Plan

Voters in the Logan County Independent School District are deciding today on a proposed $89.8 million lease-revenue bond program.

The proceeds would pay for a new 1,200-student high school in Guthrie, a new gym, a track, and soccer and softball fields.

The current high school would become the middle school campus, with the existing junior high to be converted into a community center. Other projects include repair of school parking lots, new technology, and textbooks.

If voters approve the bonds, the property tax rate would increase by $23.61 for each $100 of property tax paid. The tax on a $150,000 home in the district would increase by $354.15 a year.

Debt service on the lease-revenue bonds would be supported by proceeds from annual sales of the district’s general obligation bonds.

Voters rejected school bond proposals of $5.8 million in April 2009 and $12 millions in October 2008.

Both were favored by a majority of voters, but failed to achieve the 60% approval required by Oklahoma state law.

Guthrie is about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City.
